Local community members have been working with East
Surrey College Community team for several years to develop a plan to
provide a ‘village green for the 21st century’ on land in the centre of
Woodhatch. Information days and public meetings have led to local people
pledging their support. The scheme, was successfully granted planning
permission and has recently had approval of the Lease from Reigate &
Banstead Borough Council. The Woodhatch Park Project group are well on
the way to achieving the total build cost of the project and have
successfully raised in the region of £145,000. Funding has come from
awards being granted by SITA, Countryside Agency, BTCV, Living Spaces,
BAA, Pride of Place and other local fundraising initiatives. Local
sponsorship has included Watson Wyatt Black and Veatch and Cannon UK.
This will enable us to achieve phase 1 of the project this summer. |
Construction
Phase 1
Plans for Summer 2004 include construction of primary footpaths
through the park with low level lighting. The raised sensory garden will
also be constructed, with maintenance and the ‘meet and greet shelter’
will be built. During the Autumn/Winter there will be some hedgerow
planting.
Phase 2
The main element, currently planned for next summer, will comprise the
Children’s play area with safety surfacing. Secondary paving and planting
will be included.
Phase 3
This will be mainly volunteer based. You can help plant wildlife areas
and formal beds. |
If everyone in Woodhatch and South Park donated £5
we’d be well on our way! In the meantime, we are seeking further local
sponsorship to enable completion and ongoing maintenance costs. Do you
work in a large local company that supports community initiatives? Do you
belong to a local organisation that could fundraise on our behalf or
sponsor a piece of equipment or a flower- bed? Could you hold a cake sale
or raffle? Every little helps.
If you can please help by making a donation of your time or money to the
Woodhatch Park Project. You can print the pledge form in
Word or PDF. |
