From small beginings...........
Help us help AGE UK and get knitting!
Age Uk are running their BIG KNIT project and the Woodhatch Centre Hair Salon and the Busy Hands Craft Group are already knitting! The idea is to knit little bobble hats which fit the Innocent fruit drinks bottles! The good news is that Sanisnburys' Stores will display the drinks in their bobble hats to attract attention and increase sales. For every bottle sold, sainsburys' and Innocent Drinks will each donate 25p to Age Uk to help them provide services for vulnerable older people this winter. Patterns for the hats are available in the Woodhatch Centre Office, we can also provide wool if required! We are aiming at 500 hats so get knitting!
What an overwhelming success this has been! From aiming at 500 hats when we first got involved in the project with a to date total (14/08/13) of 2193 and counting!
A display has been set up in the reception area of the Centre for all to see the fruits of their labours! The little bobble hats have transformed into witches hats, busby's, sombrero's Christmas puddings and snowmen. Each hat is individual and busy knitters have decorated them in their own style, with flowers, faces, bobbles, buttons and bows! There are elephants, rabbits, pigs, sheep and octopus shaped hats to name but a few.
The big hand over to Age Uk will take place in the middle of September (TBA) when all those who have taken part are welcome to attend. It is understood that Sainsbury's will have the hats in store from November
